Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We strive to perform a preliminary examination for each of our patients as quickly as possible, in order to assess their needs, determine suitability for laser treatment, and provide comprehensive information. Normally, appointments for the initial examination are available within 1 to 4 weeks. The waiting times for a treatment appointment range between 2 and 4 weeks.
For initial non-binding information, we are happy to be available by phone.
Who will I have the information session with?
The information evenings, as well as the individual information sessions and preliminary examinations, are always conducted by our doctors to ensure the highest quality and safety.
How does the billing work?
These are purely private (non-contracted) specialist practices, which allows us to dedicate sufficient time to each patient during the examination. Direct billing with health insurance providers is not possible, but you can submit the invoice to your insurance and expect partial reimbursement.
What should I bring to the examination?
- All glasses you currently use, and if applicable, your contact lens prescription
- Reports from previous eye examinations and treatments
- Medical letters regarding existing and past illnesses and any surgeries you have had
- Any allergy, eye pressure, and blood sugar passports you may have
- A list of the eye drops you are using
- If you are diabetic, please also bring your current HbA1c (long-term blood sugar) value
"May I come to the examination by car?"
In most cases, a retinal examination is performed using pupil-dilating eye drops. Therefore, driving a vehicle after the examination is not permitted.
Are there parking spaces on site?
Parking is available for our patients in the building's underground garage.
Why are some treatments done while sitting and others while lying down?
Laser eye treatments are generally performed while lying down. This position allows you to relax more easily and also enables the doctor to carry out the procedure with optimal precision. Only conservative examinations, such as slit-lamp exams, pressure measurements, or instrumental tests like visual field analysis, refractometry, topography, etc., are conducted while sitting.
I’m from Vienna and would like to have treatment with you. How often would I need to come?
Based on our experience, three visits are usually sufficient. We carry out a thorough preliminary examination for every patient. If everything is in order, the treatment can take place at the next appointment (both eyes on the same day!). After that, there is one follow-up examination.
The train connections between Vienna and Linz are excellent nowadays, and we’re happy to assist you further!
We are happy to answer any additional questions and help coordinate your appointments.
I’m in my early 40s and have recently noticed a decline in my vision, which is quite bothersome. Can this be treated right away?
A thorough preliminary examination is essential to determine what exactly is causing the issue. For example, if it’s the onset of age-related farsightedness (presbyopia), we usually wait a bit until the condition stabilizes to a certain degree. After that, it can often be effectively treated with laser eye surgery or implantable lenses.
As a working mother, it's difficult for me to find an appointment during the week!
From our own experience, we know how challenging it can be to juggle all of life’s appointments. That’s why we aim for maximum flexibility and offer special appointment slots that are easier to fit into your daily life.
What does FEBO actually mean?
When looking for a competent ophthalmologist, patients may occasionally come across the title “FEBO” listed after a doctor’s name. This additional qualification stands for “Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology” and refers to a European specialist in ophthalmology.
The FEBO title is awarded after successfully passing an examination held by the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). This examination, conducted once a year in Paris, is also known as the European specialist examination in ophthalmology. It consists of both written and oral components and assesses theoretical as well as practical ophthalmological knowledge. In some European countries, this examination replaces the national specialist examination; in others, it is taken in addition to the national exam.
The EBO exam is increasingly recognized as a European standard of excellence in ophthalmology. While only 44 candidates took part in the first examination in 1995, the number had grown to 667 candidates from 27 European countries by 2019. In 2020, to mark the 25th anniversary of the EBO exam, it was held not only in its traditional location of Paris but for the first time also in Berlin.
The medical team at Auge Laser Chirurgie – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dirisamer, Prof. DDr. Luft, and Prof. Dr. Priglinger – is proud to hold the FEBO title. Furthermore, in 2018, Prof. DDr. Luft achieved the top score in the EBO examination among 651 candidates from 28 countries.
